What is a bug?
A bug can be quickly identified as a problem with existing software. However, it is much more complicated than that. It can be a behavioural problem in an application or program that does not work at all. It even applies to documentation that is incorrect.
Why should you use this form?
Entering a bug in this application prompts you for information that is essential to the developers. The information you provide will allow the developers to understand the behaviour you are seeing, reproduce the behaviour, and assist in getting the problem solved. Being able to understand and reproduce bugs are the first steps towards getting the bug fixed.
Please do not report bugs in other places, such as in newsgroups or on IRC. Bugzilla is the only reliable tracking system for Red Hat products. Red Hat cannot guarantee your bug will be fixed unless it is reported correctly.
Step 1. Create a Bugzilla account and log in.
Create a Bugzilla account if you do not already have one by going to CREATE ACCOUNT. After you receive your Bugzilla password, go ahead and LOG IN if you have not already done so.
Step 2. Search for your bug.
One of the first things you should do is to see if your bug is in our most frequently reported bugs list. If one similar to yours has already been reported, you may be able to add more information to it or add yourself to the Cc list of the bug so you will know when and how it is fixed.
It is also important to initially search for your bug. Someone else may have already posted a bug report and you may be able to add helpful information to their posting. Do not create duplicate bugs. The developers will see the bug if it is posted, they do not need several copies of it.To search for your bug, enter two or three of the main words that can be associated with your bug. For example, if you have problems with Netscape crashing on pages with Java, enter netscape crash java into the search field.
Look through the search results. If you get the cryptic "Zarro Boogs" message, Bugzilla did not return any matches for that search. Try again, being sure to check for typos. You can also enter fewer search terms or different keywords.
If you find a bug that looks the same as the one you are attempting to report, review the information carefully. Enter any helpful information you can to the bug report in the form of additional comments. Do not open a new bug.
If you find bugs similar to yours, but not quite close enough to be the same problem you are having, read them carefully. Please note their Component; you will need it later when you open your own bug report.
If you did not see any bugs already reported that are similar to your own, please continue on to the next screen by clicking on the Step 3. Choosing Product and Component button.
