Which Magazine should I buy?

There are currently 4 main monthly Land Rover magazines, Land Rover Enthusiast, Land Rover owner, Land Rover Monthly and Land Rover World. To a degree they are all very similar, after all they are about the same subject, Land Rovers!

I have reviewed all 4 February 2003 issues and have written my thoughts/comments below.

Land Rover Enthusiast

Features: 10

Adverts: 184

News Section: Fair, good news bits, if not extensive.

Favourite Articles: 101 Times 11! (article about a very lucky guy who owns 11 101's!!), Discovery Series II's in police service, and the 'Get your Defender dirty' article was very good.

Shop Window: Good range of new products reviewed.

Home Workshop: Not an extensive range of articles this month, in fact just 2 - replacing a Range Rover P38 heater matrix and normally aspirated diesels timing belt. Some good bits in the 'Your problems' section though.

The magazine has no club listings, but it does have very good articles and info to appeal to international owners. There was also a good competition this month to win a set of Pirelli tyres and a trip round the factory.

Our Land Rovers: Fair.

Pages: 180

Cost: £3.25, no saving on subscription with a free gift, but up to 50% savings on books, videos etc from the LRE shop.

Overall: 7 out of 10

Land Rover Owner

News Section: Fair, not a huge range of news articles.

Gear Section: Fair, once again not a huge range of products reviewed.

Favourite articles: 21 great adventure holidays - Land Rover holidays from £200 - £5000, the extensive cubby box review was also good.

Our Land Rovers: Very good, well written accounts of the magazine staff's Landie's.

Club Listings: Excellent.

Land Rover World

Favourite Articles: Golden Wonder (a Defender 100 for sale at £31,000 + VAT!), Red Dragon Tamed - an excellent article about a green lane trip around Snowdonia, well written with great photos and the G4 article was good.

Shop Window: Good, 4 pages full of new products.

Overall

I think my favourite magazine this month was Land Rover World, good articles, great photos, well laid out and less adverts than the rest! The joint magazines for this months raspberry go to Land Rover Owner and Land Rover Monthly. Poor articles for LRO and no club info for LRM!
