The Range Rover

By Alain Hoffmann

The car that saved Land Rover

At the end of the 60's Land Rover belonged to British Leyland and that group was almost dead. Archaic production, old machines and an terrible inefficient management sucked every pound sterling off the few profitable branches. Somehow a bunch of engineers managed to bring up a new model - the Range.

Read the illustrated story about it.and also the Happy Birthday Page

Read about it's problems and shortcomings.

Have a look at the Range announced for 2002.

Range Rovers were always popular with tuners and transformers. Many 6x6 models were made. Also it served as good base for ambulances.

Look here for the emergency procedures for Range Rover (classic models), and here for the new models

See here for replacing the Boge unit by an simple coil spring. Here's a possible cure for steering shimmy.
